SUMMARY

The first 'surf camp' is now open in the Maldives and is exclusive to The Perfect Wave. Cokes guest house is in the village of Thulusdhoo in North Male Atoll where the mighty 'COKES' point offers the best right hand point break in the Maldives. Across the channel within easy view of the hotel, an equally good left, 'Chickens' works its magic.

About this Surf Resort

Overview

The original surf camp in the Maldives and the best! Cokes Surf Camp is situated right on Cokes surf break in the North Male Atolls.

Cokes is owned and operated by our Aussie operator, Brian James, who has ten years experience running surf charters in the Maldives. With his Japanese partner Chiharu Kanno, they offer their surfing guests a wealth of local knowledge and a warm and friendly stay at a truly unique hotel/surf camp.

With an unsurpassed view of the surf at Cokes and Chickens, Cokes has two large informal areas to relax in. The top floor has a common area and is equipped with home theatre system, library, and games for the tired surfer to enjoy. The ground floor and reception area offers a juice bar and cafe with more room to refine the art of chilling out before or after a hard session in the surf.

CULTURE: Republic of Maldives is a 100% Suni Muslim Country. Visitors should wear suitable attire when in a village or Male the Capital. Males should have shorts and t-shirts and females shorts and t-shirts. Bikinis and speedos are not apropriate to wear in villages. Alcohol is not allowed in villages or Male. The local village comunities are friendly and respectfull and offer a warm hospitality. Tourism is very important to the Maldives giving 60% of the country's income. Fishing is the other big industry in Maldives. The system of government is democratic. There is a small but growing surfing comunity in the Maldives and they share the love of waves with the many nationalities visiting the country.

Surf & Other Activities

Cokes Surf Camp transfers

  • Transfers to and from Cokes Surf Camp are provided from the airport or other locations
  • Local ferry transfers available Sat, Sun, Mon, Tues and Thursdays. Depart Male at 15:00. Depart Cokes at 7:30am. $5 each way.
  • As an alternative, you can also use a government ferry every day except Friday. It leaves Male at 2:00pm - the cost is $5 each way.
  • Surf transfers are available to Chickens, Sultans, Honkys and Jails:
    • “Chickens” transfer $10 for 2-hour session, minimum 4 pax.
    • “Jails”, “Honkys”, “Sultans” transfer $20 for 2 hour session, minimum 4 pax.
Other activities
  • Cokes offers all meals from a well appointed kitchen. Foods are a combination of Asian and western style with a little local Maldivian cuisine to balance things out.
  • Cokes Juice Bar offers smoothies and fresh fruit juices.
  • Home theatre in the communal area on the upper level.
  • Chess, backgammon, cards, various games and a library on the upper level.
  • Wireless internet facility available 24 hours a day.
  • Mobile phone access at all times.
  • Local supermarket is nearby for any extra needs.

Alcohol – Due to the local religion, the consumption of alcohol is forbidden in all Maldives villages therefore is not available at Cokes.

Photography - Surf photo and video service by experienced photographer by appointment. Extra charge: US$25 per hour per individual surfer.

 

Alternate Activities:

  • Night fishing expeditions available - by appoinment only. The cost is US$30 per hour and minimum 2 people are required to run the trip.
  • Snorkeling on nearby reefs available.
  • Soccer and volleyball games with the local villagers.

  • Male, the capital of the Maldives, can be visited by local ferry six days a week. Extra charge: US$5 return.

The Cola’s Surf Camp is a pretty perfect set-up with a perfect view of the line-up at all times you are not in the water, sleeping or eating. Very well run by Brian and his team and as far as a Surf Camp goes would cater for all but the fussiest tastes. Eating times are run past all to ensure everyone is aware and food will be left for you if you decide on those extra half-doz waves in an empty line-up. Wave quality is up there with all the main stream reef points around the globe and transfers to other breaks in the area doesn’t seem to be a problem at all. I would advise you to take booties, weather or not you use them just in case, but apart from that just get yourself there and enjoy the Maldives.
